From the founding of the first University in Leiden in 1575,
education, knowledge and science have been key factors suppporting the
development of the Netherlands. Today it is one of the ten most
competitive econonomies in the world and amongst the world’s leading
nations in terms of science and technology. It is home to
knowledge-intensive businesses and worldwide market leaders such as
Shell, Philips, Unilever, Corus and ASML.
The Technical
University of Delft was founded in 1842 as the Royal Academy of Willem
II. The Society is very pleased to partner with the Department of
Precision and Microsystems Engineering within the University to deliver
this highly regarded technical meeting and networking event.
This year, in conjunction with the society’s core themes of ultra
precision processes, machines and technologies, a focus will be given
to emerging patterning technologies and methods. Wind turbines and
their associated precision engineering challenges will also be
addressed; from gear technologies to the large scale metrology demanded
for blade surfaces.
A perspective on leading international activities will further be
provided by the American and Japanese Societies for Precision
Engineering who will each deliver a set of invited keynote papers.
Delegates will benefit from a full programme of review papers,
state-of-the-art research papers, professional development tutorials
and a comprehensive exhibition with industrial visits in the local area.
